Hi, I’m Rainer Macalister.

I’m an award-winning Wellington photographer, and after 10 years of professional photography I know that the best photos aren’t the ones where you spend 10 minutes getting a perfect pose. I specialise in capturing real moments for pet owners, families and couples around New Zealand.

The pet photography side of things came from something pretty simple: I kept noticing that the best moments in family sessions and weddings were the ones involving the dog. The toddler wrestling the retriever. The old lab quietly watching from the shade. The look on someone’s face when their dog does something ridiculous.

Pets don’t perform. They don’t worry about what they look like. They’re just completely, honestly themselves. And that’s exactly the kind of photography I love.
